Alcorn State, MS – The Alabama A&M baseball team fell 21-6, 9-6, and 11-4 in their latest Southwestern Athletic Conference Eastern division three-game series.
A&M (8-29, 4-14 SWAC) was led by Deon Hall who batted .500 going 5 of 10 at the plate with four runs and five total bases. Senior Kency Duarte posted a .333 in the three contest played at the newly minted Willie McGowan stadium. The left fielder totaled four hits a run, a double, and a run batted in.
Alabama A&M came close in the second game of the series when they posted a series high five runs in the top of the seventh to pull within three of the Braves. Unfortunately they were held scoreless in the remaining two innings falling 9-6.
In the final match Alcorn opened the game with six runs over the first three innings. The Maroon & White then scored two runs in the fourth and fifth inning marking the score 6-4 after five innings of action. The Eastern division leading Braves then notched a run in seventh and four in the eighth to take the series and complete the season sweep of A&M 11-4.
The Bulldogs will welcome Jackson State University on Saturday, April 30 – Sunday, May 1, in their final three home games of 2011.
