Lady Bulldogs Take Round One from State

Box Score The Alabama A&M women's basketball team defeated intra-state rival Alabama State, 65-56, at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome Saturday afternoon.
 
The Lady Bulldogs (8-7, 3-2) took advantage of the Lady Hornets' foul trouble, making 11 of its 16 second-half free throws. The Lady Hornets were outrebound by the Lady Bulldogs 45 to 33, with 19 of the boards coming off the offensive end.

The game featured 10 ties and 11 lead changes.

Tied at 55-all with less than three minutes to play, the Lady Hornets were outscored 10-1 down the stretch.
 
From there the Lady Bulldogs controlled the contest shooting 48 percent on 9-32 shooting. The Maroon & White managed to out-score Alabama State 18-17 in bench points, 14-12 in points off turnovers and 16-6 in second chance points.
 
All-American Candidate Whiquitta Tobar led the Lady Bulldogs with 22 points, her 15th straight game with double digit points, while freshman guard Shundray Davis chipped in 11 points
 
A&M will return to the hardwood next Saturday when they travel to Baton Rouge, La. to take on the Jaguars of Southern University at 3:00 p.m.
