Box Score NORMAL – The Alabama A&M women’s basketball team defeated the Lady Tigers of Texas Southern University 56-36, on Saturday afternoon in the T.M. Elmore Gymnasium.

The Lady Tigers struggled throughout the contest and failed to maintain any strong lead against the Lady Bulldogs. A&M held TSU to 13 total points in the second half of play.

Senior All-American candidate Whiquitta Tobar led A&M in scoring with 15 points and five rebounds. Junior forward Nadra Robertson tallied 11 points on the night.

TSU’s leading scorer was Gianne Fleming with 13 points while teammate Moran Simmons totaled 12. Crystal Anyiam led the Lady Tigers in rebounds grabbing eight.

Texas Southern out-shot the Lady Bulldogs from the free throw line shooting 75 percent (3-4), while the Maroon and White shot 66 percent (10-15) from the stripe. A&M shot 38 percent (22-57) from the field compared to the Lady Tigers 31% connecting on 15 for 47.

The Lady Tigers dominated the boards grabbing 37 on the night but was outscored 10-6 in second chance points.
A&M (9-9, 4-4 SWAC) is back in action Monday, January 30 against the Panthers of Prairie View A&M University. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
