Bulldogs win first Contest of the year

NORMAL – The youngest Division I head coach in America & AAMU’s baseball leader, Michael Tompkins, earned his first victory of his career on Friday, afternoon by the final score of 8-5 over Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne. 

Junior Norbert Riggins went 2 for 3 with two runs and three RBI’s to lead A&M.

The Bulldogs found themselves ahead two runs after the bottom of the fourth inning, but a two run top of the fifth would tie the game up.

Alabama A&M got hot again in the bottom of the seventh, posting four runs to increase the lead to 6-2.

IPFW would once again answer with a three run eighth inning, but it wasn't enough as the Bulldogs poured on two more in the bottom of the eighth to earn the victory.

Freshman Josh Freeman earned his first vicrtory of his career going seven innings and posting two strikeouts, 14 fly outs, and five ground outs.  

Alabama A&M will have a chance to play the Mastadons again tomorrow as the Bulldogs will host a doubleheader beginning at 11:30 a.m.
