NORMAL– The Alabama A&M women’s basketball win streak continues with a 61-50 thumping of the Lady Braves of Alcorn State on Monday night.
A&M was led by senior All-American candidate Whiquitta Tobar who posted 23 points, two rebounds and pair of assists and steals. Sophomore Jasmine Sanders finished the night with 12 points, nine rebounds and one steal.
This was Tobar’s 23th contest this season with double digit points.
The Lady Bulldogs won points off turnovers 13-7, and second chance points 13-7.
The Maroon & White struggled in the first half shooting 9 of 24 from the field for only 37 percent. The second proved much the same, but free throw shooting was better as the Lady Bulldogs shot 71 percent from the stripe.
The victory, A&M's third straight and sixth in its last seven games, lifted the Bulldogs to 14-10 overall and 9-5 in league play. The Braves fall to 10-17 and 8-7.
The game was duped the WBCA Think Pink game. It is an initiative that is a global, unified effort for the WBCA nation of coaches to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond.
A&M will look to continue their win streak when they venture to Prairie View, Texas to battle the Prairie View A&M University Lady Panthers on Saturday, February 25th. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
