Bulldog Baseball Classic Day One

NORMAL – ISU topped Western Illinois 1-0 on Friday in the opening game of the 2012 Bulldog Classic.
 
Junior starting pitcher Dakota Bacus led Indiana State to their first win of the 2012 season on Friday, throwing a complete game two-hit shutout as Indiana State picked up their first victory of the season.

The Sycamore hurler struck out seven batters against just a pair of walks on Friday.
 
Western Illinois' southpaw Rich Masheri also pitched well, going eight innings with four strikeouts.
 
In game two, tournament host Alabama A&M earned their third win of the season with a 7-2 10 hit handling of the Eagles of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. 
 
Freshman Josh Freeman picked up his second victory on the mound going eight innings striking out five against two walks.
 
The double digit hits was a season high for the Bulldogs as sophomore Julio Nunez and junior Juan Lopez each finished 2 for 5 at the plate with a run.  Lopez posted a RBI while freshman Walton Ashwander earned a run batted in and Dylan Johnson led all batters with two RBI’s.
 
The Eagles were led by James Newsome who finished the game 2 for 5 with a run and a RBI.
 
Day two of the Bulldog Classic will continue at Joe Davis stadium and will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, February 25.
 
Maryland Eastern Shore will look for their first win when they face Indiana State.  
 
Then at noon and 3 p.m. the Maroon & White will face the Sycamores and Western Illinois to close out the triple header.
