NORMAL – The offense came alive on Saturday at Joe Davis stadium for the Indiana State baseball team as they pounded out 37 hits and scored 29 runs in sweeping a doubleheader at the 2012 Bulldog Baseball Classic.

In game one of the scheduled triple header, the Sycamores collected season highs of 17 runs and 20 hits versus the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore. 

Indiana State did not waste any time opening the first inning with seven runs then six more in the second as they cruised to a 17-2 victory.   

Sean Manaea earn the victory over the Hawks going six innings, collecting 10 strikeouts while giving up a walk and two earned runs. 
Thirteen Sycamores posted a hit in the two hour and 43 minute contest.

Maryland-Eastern Shore posted five hits and two runs and was once again lead by James Newsome who went 2 for 3 at the plate with a run and a RBI.

Alabama A&M tagged in for game two versus Indiana State.  The Sycamores bats never cooled off as they posted 17 hits and 12 runs. 

ISU’s Ryan Torgerson earned the win in the first contest between the two schools as he went seven innings, striking out seven and giving up only two hits.

A&M was held in check as they posted two hits while freshman starting pitcher Champ Adams gave up 12 hits and seven earned runs in six innings of work.

The Bulldogs threatened in the ninth inning with bases loaded but a Norbert Riggins strikeout ended the game and dropped the Maroon & White to 3-3 on the year.

The final contest at Joe Davis stadium saw the Maroon & White vs. Western Illinois.

The Leathernecks and A&M traded runs in the first inning. WIU then took their final lead of the game with two runs in the second inning. 

A&M responded with a freshman Dylan Johnson run in the third to cut the score to 3-2.  From there it was all Western Illinois as they went on to score three runs in the fourth, fifth and two in the seventh inning to take their first win of the Classic 11-2.

AAMU couldn’t get the bats warm managing two hits and two runs. Johnson and freshman Brandyn Crutcher accounted for the Bulldog hits.

The Bulldog Classic will conclude on Sunday, February 26th, at Joe Davis stadium.  The 12 p.m. game will feature Maryland-Eastern
Shore vs. Western Illinois. 

The final contest has the tournament host AAMU vs. Indiana State.  First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
