Four A&M women's basketball players recorded double figures led by Alyssa Strickland’s 12 points as the Lady Bulldogs completed the season sweep over the defending SWAC champion Prairie View A&M University 61-49 on Saturday afternoon in the Williams Nicks Building.
Senior All-American Candidate Whiquitta Tobar and freshman Shundray Davis scored 11 points along with sophomore Nadra Robertson who scored her 10 points in the second half.
With the score tied at 13, the Lady Panthers went on a 12-5 spurt that was highlighted by a PV's Quandria Williams and Kirara Williams’s three-pointer that gave Prairie View its first lead of the day at 25-18 with 3:56 to go in the first.
The Panthers led the rest of the half and even added to the lead, seeing the margin spread to as many as six points to take a 28-22 lead into the locker room.
The second half saw the Lady Bulldogs chipping away at the lead immediately closing the margin to three at 47-44 after a three pointer by Strickland with 5:23 remaining. The Maroon and White turned the defensive pressure up and didn't allow Prairie View to find rhythm the remaining of the game.
The victory, A&M's fourth straight and seventh in its last eight games, lifted the Lady Bulldogs to 15-10 overall and 10-5 in league play. The Panthers fall to 11-15 and 8-7.
AAMU looks to make it five wins in-a-row on Monday, Feb. 25 as they will take on the Tigers of Texas Southern University in another crucialSWAC match-up. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
