A&M Baseball drops Tuskegee in Doubleheader

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Game One

Game Two

NORMAL – The Bulldogs accounted for 20 hits and 17 runs in their doubleheader sweep of Tuskegee University 8-0 and 8-7 on Wednesday at Bulldog field.

“A wins a win, we’ll take the .500 record any way we can going into conference play,” stated head coach Michael Tompkins. “We continue to get better and look to turn some heads in the SWAC.”

The first game was all A&M as the Bulldogs jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first inning then added five more over the next five innings holding the Golden Tigers to four hits.

Freshman Champ Adams earned his first victory in his first complete game giving up only four hits.

Lee high school alum Jordan Friend led all players going 2 for 3 at the plate with a run and two runs batted in.

Game two went a little different as the Golden Tigers opened the scoring with three runs in the first.  A&M then added five of their own over the next three innings to take a 6-4 lead going into the sixth.

Tuskegee made things interesting posting a hit in the top of the sixth then two in the seventh to go ahead 7-6.

The bottom of the seventh opened with a fly out then a walk.  Norbert Riggins then doubled and scored Julio Nunez. Riggins would then steal third base then score the game winning run when freshman Walton Ashwander singled to the third.

The rivalry with Tuskegee stretches back to the SIAC days for A&M.   When these two teams get together nothing matters but the win as the two game series was played under a tornado watch, sunshine then rain and 25 mile per hour winds.

The Bulldogs now head into Southwestern Athletic Conference play when they travel to Montgomery, AL to take on league rival Alabama State.  The three game series opens on Saturday, March 3rd with a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. and end on Sunday, March 4th with a noon nine inning match.
