Valley Sweeps AAMU in SWAC Baseball action

NORMAL – The Bulldog baseball team continues its winless streak now at 12 as they were swept by the Delta Devils of Mississippi Valley State University 3-9, 1-7 and 6-7 this past weekend.

The Bulldogs battled in game one but could not keep pace with Valley as A&M totaled six hits compared to the Delta Devils 12.  MVSU’s Kameron Stady shut down the Bulldog offense in nine innings of work.

Freshman Josh Freeman earned his third loss of the year after five innings of action.  Junior Norbert Riggins posted his first triple of the year and lead A&M going 2 for 3 with a season high three RBI’s and two runs in the 8-6 loss.

In the second game A&M posted double digit hits for only the fourth time this season but was only able to score one run and left a season high 13 on in their 11th straight defeat of the year. Although three pitchers were used, Allen Belue earned his fourth loss after giving up six hits, six runs and five earned in four innings of work.

Chris Thomas went 2 for 3 at the plate with a run batted in.

The three-game series finale came down to a run as Valley opened the Sunday afternoon contest with two runs the first.  The Bulldogs tied the score in the second but lost it in the top of the third inning 5-2.  A&M would score three runs over the next two innings to even the score at five all.  MVSU scored two in the eighth while the Maroon & White only added a run in the bottom of the inning to fall 7-6 for their 12th straight.

Jordan Friend led the way at the plate going 3 for 4 with two runs batted in and a run.  Sanchez Tucker posted his first loss of 2011 in three innings, giving up seven hits, five earned runs and two walks.

The next opportunity for a victory for A&M will be Wednesday, March 21st, at 6:30 p.m. when they travel to Starkville, Mississippi for a midweek non-conference contest versus Mississippi State University.
