A&M Baseball Splits series with Savannah State

Box Score Game 3

Game 4

Normal -- The Alabama A&M baseball team split with Savannah State University in the second day of their four game series.

In the first game junior Norbert Riggins went 3-4 at the plate but it wasn’t enough as A&M left eight runners on only producing five runs in the nine-inning affair.

Two of Bulldog's runs were scored thanks to timely hitting by Riggins. He singled in the third, fifth, and ninth innings.

Allen Belue was a workhorse on the rubber for A&M. Belue pitched 5 1/3 innings and allowed one earned run, four hits and two walks while striking out four.

In game two Jordan Friend drove in three runners, helping the Maroon & White to a 7-4 victory over Savannah State in the final contest of their series.

Friend singled in the third inning and homered in the fifth to become the second Bulldog in 2012 to hit one over the Maroon wall.

Walt Ashwander got it done on the rubber on the way to his first win. He allowed four runs over seven innings. The Alabama native struck out three, walked one and surrendered four hits.

The Bulldogs will compete against cross-town rival Alabama-Huntsville on Tuesday, April 17th at 6 p.m.

The Chargers and the Bulldogs will be meeting on the diamond for the 19th time, with UAH carrying a dominating 17-1 record in the series. The lone UAH loss came during the 2009 season at Alabama A&M by a score of 9-8.

The game will be played at UAH field.
