Henderson scores A&M’s second goal against UMKC

Box Score
Normal- The Alabama A&M women’s soccer team was defeated by the University of Missouri-Kansas City 2-1 on Saturday the 22nd of September.

The Lady Bulldogs traveled to the “Show Me” state and put up a great fight. After going down early in the first half by conceding two goals in the first four minutes of play, A&M was able to settle down and regroup.

The Maroon and White responded in the 19th minute with a goal of their own. Senior Nycole Henderson scored an unassisted goal after she stole the ball off a kangaroo player and then beat two defenders on a breakaway before putting the ball in the back of the net. This was the turning point of the game for both teams.

“At the beginning of the game you could tell that our opponent thought they were going to beat us by ten, but when we scored it was a whole different contest” stated Henderson.

A&M used the momentum of scoring their second goal of the season to change the tide of the game. The defense hunkered down reducing UMKC’s opportunities, and did not allow another goal to be scored.

Offensively the Lady Bulldogs were able to attack more as a team in turn getting more chances in goal.

“It was disappointing we couldn’t find the back of the net in the second half” added Henderson.

The Lady Bulldogs will use this achievement as momentum as they prepare for SWAC competition.

Alabama A&M will be back in action on October 5th in their SWAC opener as they travel to Montgomery, Ala. to take on the Hornets of Alabama State University at 3 p.m.
