Lady Bulldogs Remain Undefeated in SWAC

Box Score Boxscore

Itta Bena - The A&M Lady Bulldogs improved to 3-0 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference, topping the Mississippi Valley Devilettes 67-58, Sunday afternoon at the HPER Complex.

Twin sister’s Alyssa and Brittney Strickland combined for 34 points in the win.

Neither team was able to pull away in the first half, even after the Devilettes opened the game on a 6-2 run in just two minutes. A free-throw from Strickland and a fast-break layup from NaDra Robertson put Lady Bulldogs up by one with 8:51 to go.

A strong start to the second half, where AAMU held the home team without a field goal for a stretch of nearly five minutes, helped the Lady Bulldogs lead balloon as high as eight with 8:35 to go.

MVSU erased the deficit in less than five minutes, to cut the lead to two.

AAMU would respond, as Jasmine Sanders connected on four free throws, and a jumper from Strickland gave the Maroon and White a 12 point advantage with 1:52 to go. In the game's final stages, free throws with less than 30 seconds left, helped keep the Lady Bulldogs perfect in their conference slate.

A&M’s bench outscored Valley’s 22-17, including 16 from Brittney Strickland and three from freshman Ebony Johnson. Alyssa Strickland led all scorers with 18 points.

“That was just a really, really good win for our program," Warmley said. "Valley is a very good team with a lot of things that can give you fits."
