Bulldog Baseball Downed By Indiana State, 12-5

Normal - Indiana State jumped out to an early lead and held on to beat Alabama A&M, 12-5, Saturday afternoon, in the second day of the 2013 Bulldogs Baseball Classic.

Indiana State got going in the first inning quickly, plating three runs in the opening frame.

A&M got on board when Brandyn Crutcher led off the inning with a walk. Julio Nunez singled to right field to advance Crutcher to third base. A double steal by the Bulldogs put them on the board.

Norbert Riggins led off in the bottom of the second inning with a shot to left center field, and later to advance to third base. Riggins was able to steal home to cut into the ISU lead 3-2.

After Alabama A&M tallied single runs in the first and second innings, Indiana State would plate two runs in the third, fourth and sixth innings and one more in the fifth to take a 10-2 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth inning. Indiana State would tack on two more runs in the top of the ninth inning on a two-run triple by Cody Zimmerman to earn a 12-5 road victory.

The Bulldogs would rally three runs in the sixth, but it wasn’t enough at the end.

The Maroon and White tallied eight hits and only had two errors for the game.

A&M will close out the classic on Sunday, February 17 with a double header against Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne. First Pitch is 11:00 a.m. on the campus.
