GRAMBLING, La. - Twin sisters Alyssa and Brittney Strickland duplicated in points to lead Alabama A&M, but it wasn’t enough as the Lady Bulldogs fell to the Lady Tigers of Grambling State, 70-67, on Thursday evening.
Both Strickland’s scored six second half points on 3-of-7 shooting and finished with a team high 17 points. Taylor Sippial and Clairissa Moore each added eight points on the night.
With the loss A&M falls to 9-18 overall and 8-9 in the league.
A&M, shot 45 percent from the field and 85 percent from the foul line and received excellent contribution from its bench to outscore the Lady Tigers bench 26-13.
The Lady Bulldogs fell behind 60-58 with 7:31remaining before using a 4-0 run to take a three point lead in the closing three minutes of play.
GSU’s Joanna Miller free throw tied the game at 65 all with less than two minutes on the clock. GSU then went up three on a layup by Tyler Anderson, stretching the Lady Tigers lead 68-65. A&M’s Danielle Oneal jumper with 50 seconds on the clock cut into the Grambling lead to one.
A foul put the Lady Tigers on the line with two clutch free throws, unfortunately the Maroon and White was unable to connect on three pointers as time ran out.
Leading Grambling was Joanna Miller with a game high 28 points.
A&M loss its final regular season match-up last season at the hands of the Lady Tigers 68-64.
The Altherias Warmley squad will travel to Jackson, Miss. for their final regular season game when they face the Lady Tigers of Jackson State on Saturday, March 2nd. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m.
