Bulldog Baseball wins 10-6; Third game called due to weather

Box Score

NORMAL, Ala. - A four run seventh inning was all Alabama A&M baseball would need in the second game of their series, that was finished on Saturday morning due to darkness from Friday’s doubleheader. A&M came from behind and beat Alcorn State, 10-6, to even the weekend series.

The four-run, five-hit top of the first inning halted game on Friday night wasn’t enough for the Braves.  Alcorn managed to score runs in the third and seventh innings.

Jordan Friend put the Bulldogs on the board when he blasted a monster, two-run home run over the left field wall to make it 4-2, cutting into the Braves momentum.

In the bottom of the third A&M’s Patrick Dodson single up the middle for a base hit. Following Dobson, Austin Hulsey single to right field to score the runner, cutting the lead to 5-3.

The Bulldogs hit a pair of RBI doubles during a two-run frame to tie the game at five all and tacked on runs in the seventh and eighth innings.

The Maroon and White defense held Alcorn in three scoreless innings. However in the bottom of the seventh, A&M runs started to roll.  The Maroon & White became much more aggressive on the base path.  Three of the four A&M batters in the inning got on base with a single.  Friend singled to score two batters; right after Dylan Johnson earned an RBI by getting hit by the pitch when the bases were loaded.

A&M scored one insurance run in the bottom of the eighth inning, as Dodson came across home plate.

The Bulldogs accounted for 10 hits on 10 runs, with only 2 errors in the victory.  This was a season high in runs and runs batted in for A&M.
Dodson extends his multiple hit games to 11 while Hulsey hitting streak now stretches to seven contests.

Not only was this A&M’s first conference win of the season but their first in two years.

The third and final game of the series had made to through six and a half innings before it had to be called due to the inclement weather that had moved into the area.  Alcorn was up 8-0 when the contest was called.

The deciding match will be finished on May 4th when the Bulldogs visit the reservation for their second series with the Braves.
