Bulldogs claims series with 8-6 & 5-4 wins over Mississippi Valley

NORMAL -- The A&M Baseball team claim their first Southwestern Athletic Conference series victories with 8-6 and 5-4 wins over Mississippi Valley at Bulldog field today.

Both games provided excitement for the fans in attendance with the result favorable for the home team.

Game one opened with Valley ahead 1-0 after the top of the second.  A&M answered when Jordan Friend doubled to score Julio Nunez tying the game at 1-1.  The Maroon and White then added two more runs to the scoreboard in the bottom of the third to gain a 3-1 advantage. 

Not to be out done the Devils went on to score three runs in the top of the fourth led by a homerun by Seth Milliorn.  Once again the Bulldogs went ahead by two with three scores of their own.

The bottom of the sixth saw Brandyn Crutcher and Deon Hall cross home plate to give A&M eight runs compared to MVSU’s four.  Valley scored two more runs in the seventh but AAMU was able to hold them scoreless the remaining of the contest winning 8-6.

A&M combined for 14 hits for the 12th time this season with double digit connections.  Patrick Dodson led the way with four RBIs and four runs.  Hall finished with three hits and two runs scored.  Sanchez Tucker earned the win after going four innings.

Game two was a little more dramatic as the contest was not decided until the bottom of the ninth inning.

After two innings of play Alabama A&M held a 2-1 advantage.  The very next at bat Valley took control of the game with two runs in the top of third.  From there the Bulldog defense stepped up and held MVSU to four hits for the remaining of the game. 

The Bulldogs scored Hall in the fifth, Johnson in the seventh and Crutcher in the ninth to earn their second consecutive win for the first time in 2013.

For the 13th time A&M earned double digit hits finishing with ten and was led by Crutcher with three.  

Josh Freeman earned the win for his third of the year.

The wins give A&M a two game lead over Mississippi Valley for fourth place in the Eastern Division standings.

Game three of the series will be played at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 28th at Bulldog field.  Admission is free.
