Baseball heads to Jackson State for 3-Game league series

NORMAL – Head coach Michael Tompkins will try to earn his second SWAC win when of his career when he and the Bulldogs visit Jackson State University on Saturday and Sunday, April 6-7.

A&M (3-24, 1-8 SWAC) are ranked fourth in the Eastern division and look to accomplish something that hasn’t happen at A&M in five years, a trip to the post season tournament.

They will look to Austin Hulsey who is riding a seven game hitting streak and currently holds a .330 average at the plate with eight doubles and 17 runs batted in.

Sophomore Josh Freeman holds the best record among the pitchers with a 2-6 record and a team leading 25 strikeouts.

The Tigers (15-15, 9-3 SWAC) are led by Malcolm Tate who holds a .323 batting average.  Desmond Russell is the only JSU pitcher with an undefeated record at 3-0 in nine appearances.  He leads the team with 36 strikeouts.

A doubleheader will be played on Saturday, April 6, at 1 p.m. then the series will end with a nine-inning contest on Sunday, April 7, with a first pitch set for 2 p.m.
