Baseball falls to Jackson State in conference series

Normal- The Bulldogs dropped three conference games to the Tigers of Jackson State this weekend in Jackson, Mississippi.

Saturday’s double-header saw the Maroon & White fall in two close games, 9-8 in the opener, and 5-4 in a 10-inning nightcap, JSU improved to 17-15 (11-3 in SWAC) and A&M dropped to 3-26 (1-10 in SWAC).

Game one saw the Bulldogs start hot scoring three runs in the first inning. JSU answered in the bottom of the inning with a solo run. With the score at 3-1, A&M would not score again until the sixth inning. While A&M had four scoreless innings, the Tigers put two runs on the board to tie the game at three, going into the sixth.

The sixth inning saw five runs by both teams, one from A&M, and four from JSU. The Tigers took their first lead at 7-4 at the bottom of the inning. The next two innings were again scoreless. In the top of the ninth, the Maroon& White retook the lead by collecting four runs. With the score at 8-7, JSU came to the plate for last licks, eventually winning the game 9-8, after scoring two.

Game two, started with three scoreless innings, until A&M hit the board with a single run in the fourth inning to open scoring. JSU returned the favor, scoring two of their own runs in the bottom of the inning.  A&M regained the lead at 4-3 in the next inning scoring three runs while JSU scored one.

JSU tied the game in the bottom of the eighth inning leaving the ninth scorless forcing an extra innings. The 4-4 tie was broken by JSU who went on to win the game in the bottom of the 10th 5-4.

The final game of the series, JSU completed the sweep over the Maroon & White with a 7-0 victory. A&M recorded four hits by four different Bulldogs in the final game of the series.

A&M returns to action April 13th and 14th when the host in-state conference rival Alabama State in a three game series on "The Hill".
