Box Score

BATON ROUGE, La - For the second consecutive game A&M put itself in huge first half hole and similarly to the last occasion it proved too deep to climb out of.

Southern jumped out to a 13-2 lead in the opening minutes, and had A&M playing at a much faster tempo than they were comfortable.

Southern built an early 25-point lead in the opening minutes of the game and despite an AAMU rally in the second half; the Jaguars were able to hold on for the 81-59 win Saturday afternoon in the F.G. Clark Activity Center.

It was the sixth loss in seven games for the Bulldogs.

SU used a 12-2 run to end the first half to take control of the game, going up 49-20 with 17 seconds left before the break on a two-pointer by Britney Washington, who racked up 13 of her 16 points before halftime.

Jasmine Sanders, Alyssa and Brittney Strickland combined to score 43 of AAMU's 59 points as the Bulldogs fell to 3-13 overall and 1-5 in SWAC play. Shaterrion Moffett finished with four points and two rebounds while Ebony Johnson finished with four points. Johnson also had three rebounds.

Alyssa Strickland, who went four for six from 3-point range against the Jags, hit her 3-pointers all in the second half.

A&M cut the lead to 66-50 on an Alganese Gatson jumper with 7:33 remaining in the second half, prompting Randall to call timeout, but that was as close as the Bulldogs would get.

Southern (10-5, 7-0) was led by Britney Washington and Kendra Coleman who both finished with 16 points.

Next, A&M will travel to Alcorn, Mississippi to face the Lady Braves of Alcorn State University, on Monday Jan. 27. Tip-off is at 5:30 p.m.
