Women’s Basketball host Texas Southern

NORMAL -- The Alabama A&M women's basketball team (3-14, 1-6 SWAC) hosts Texas Southern this Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. at the T.M. Elmore Gymnasium in a crucial SWAC matchup.
A&M is 4-4 this season at Elmore. During the non-conference season, the Bulldogs went 2-2 at home, averaging 60 points per game.

Texas Southern (9-9, 6-1 SWAC) most recently defeated the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff, 75-51, in the team's third-straight home win. The Tigers are 3-5 on the road this year.

TSU is led by Jasmine Parker, who leads the Tigers in points with 22.1, ppg and rebounds, 6.9 per contest. Both, Brianna Sidney, 11.2 ppg, and Morgan Simmons, 10.1, are averaging double-figures.

Jasmine Sanders is one of two student-athletes playing in Elmore this weekend that ranks in the top 10 in scoring and rebounding. Sanders' 11.8 ppg has her ranked ninth in the conference in scoring and her 6.9 rpg places her ninth as well.

Parker of Texas Southern is the other student-athlete that ranks in the top 10 in the conference in scoring and rebounding.

Both Sanders and Brittney Strickland have proven to be a dangerous duo on offense and defense for the Bulldogs. Together, the two account for an average of 21.1 points per contest and an average of 10.3 rebounds. The two hold the top two scoring averages on the team. Strickland poses a threat from behind the 3-point line with her team leading 27% 3-point shooting percentage. She also leads AAMU with an average of 2.6 steals per game.
