Women's Basketball competitive vs. Alabama State

Box Score

Normal-Jasmine Sanders produced her fifth double double of the season with 19 points and 12 rebounds in the women's basketball team's 81-60 loss to Alabama State Saturday afternoon.

With 2,784 in attendance, the Bulldogs started off slowly with the Hornets taking an early lead. Eight minutes into the game, the Lady Hornets took a 15 point advantage.

During the second media time-out, head coach Semeka Randall enthusiastically encouraged communication as the key to her players. During the next four minutes, the Bulldogs decreased the Hornets' lead to nine.

As time continued to dial down, the Hornets were able to increase their lead. A&M's Brittney Strickland ended the half with a coast to coast lay-up to cut the lead back to single digits. Unfortunately the Bulldogs would trail 37-28 at the half.

All-Conference selection Jasmine Sanders was determined to make an impact in this game as she was held scoreless in the first matchup. She led the Maroon and White with 13 points in the first half.

The second half started similar the first. The Hornets, due to their size advantage, were able to maintain their lead of 11 by the first media timeout. This was due to the efforts of Hornet forward Brittney Wright.

Throughout the rest of the contest, ASU was able to maintain a lead closing the 2013-2014 regular season series with an 81-60 victory.

Brittany Strickland recorded 13 points, a pair of rebounds, a steal and an assist in the annual rivalry.

Strickland and Sanders are both ranked in the top 10 among other SWAC scoring leaders. Strickland averages 17.0 points per game while Sanders is producing 12.8 ppg with a team high 6.9 boards a contest.

The Bulldogs will enjoy a week off before returning to the hardwood on Saturday, February 22, at 4:00 p.m. when the host Southern University.
