Baseball welcomes the Blazers in first midweek contest

NORMAL – The Bulldogs baseball team will welcome the University of Alabama-Birmingham to Bulldog field on Tuesday, February 18, in their first midweek game of the year.

A&M is coming off a 2-2 weekend as they split their opening series with Indiana Purdue-Fort Wayne 5-2, 5-1, 11-4 and 10-5.

Dylan Johnson posted his best numbers of his Maroon & White career going 3 of 6 for a .500 batting average with three runs, his first homerun and five RBI's.

Devin Smith and Caleb Bowen each collected their first wins of the year.  Smith was the only pitcher to throw a complete game finishing with two strikeouts, 10 fly outs and eight groundouts in seven innings of work. Bowen threw two innings and ended the day with two fly outs and a pair of groundouts.

UAB comes in undefeated (3-0) after sweeping UT-Martin over the weekend.  Adam Smith leads the team with a .444 batting average while Chase Mallard, Alex Luna and Cory Eller each earned a victory.


Tuesday' action versus the Blazers will be a nine inning contest with the first pitch coming at 2:00 p.m. The game can be followed via live stats courtesy of www.aamusports.com.
