Women's Basketball Dominates Lady Braves

Box Score Normal- The Alabama A&M women's basketball team ended their slide Monday night with a 70-49 win over Alcorn State in Elmore Gymnasium.

The first four minutes of action was slightly sloppy, as both teams started the game with multiple turnovers. Things began to settle down and by the first media timeout the Lady Braves held a seven point lead.
Slight changes were made by A&M Head Coach Semeka Randall during the break. This fired up her Bulldogs, who stepped up defensively allowing no points over the next four minutes and tied the game at nine.

Play went back and forth for the first ten minutes as the teams traded baskets. Neither club could pull away from the other offensively. At the 10:30 mark, the Maroon & White held a slight two-point advantage at 11-9.
Because of heavy defensive pressure, the Bulldogs forced 12 turnovers and were able to maintain their slight lead throughout the remainder of the half. A&M would close the first 20 with a four-point lead, at 31-27 and finished the half shooting 40% on 10-25.

Carrying AAMU was Brittany Strickland and Alganese Gatson. They tallied seven points each and led the team on the boards and in steals.

The second half started off where the first left off. The Bulldogs were able to increase their lead to 10 in the first three minutes, forcing Alcorn's head coach Tonya Edwards to call a timeout. With little change coming in the next six minutes, Alcorn called another timeout. During this half alone, A&M forced five turnovers due to their full-court press. The Bulldogs gained a 15-point lead and shot 61.5% from the field on 8-13.

The A&M women's basketball team increased their lead despite a valiant Lady Braves effort. Alcorn was doomed by a combination of poor shooting and good defense applied by A&M. Alcorn finished the game shooting just 32%, hitting only 15 of 62 shots.
During the last four minutes, the Maroon & White lead steadily increased, as the team opened their largest advantage of the game (22 points, 66-42) at the 2:04 mark.
For the game, the Bulldogs forced 23 turnovers, and shot 44% on 22-50.

Leading Alcorn was Ashtin McNichols and Lindsay Littlejohn each with 10 points.

Three Bulldogs finished with double digits points led by Jasmine Sanders who had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds followed by Brittney Strickland with 13 points and Gatson with 11.

The Maroon & White will hit the road for a pair of contests in Texas. They will play on Saturday, March 1, versus Prairie View A&M University and Monday, March 3, versus Texas Southern.
The next home game will be held March 6, versus Jackson State in Elmore Gymnasium.
