Baseball suffers setback in Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. –Alabama A&M Baseball was doomed today in two big innings as the Liscomb University Bisons defeated the Bulldogs 18-5 on Thursday afternoon at Ken Dugan Field at Stephen L. Marsh Stadium.
 
In the bottom of the second inning, Lipscomb took a 3-0 lead over the Bulldogs, however, A&M tied the game at three in the fourth inning. 
 
The inning would see junior Andrew Utterback connect on a fly ball to center field to bring in junior Julio Nunez, who reached on a walk. Junior Patrick Dodson was able to reach second base on an error by the catcher then advanced to third.  A pitcher's balk would allow Dodson to score the second run. The next at bat would then see sophomore Cornelius Woods go yard to left field igniting the Bulldog bench for his first homerun of the year.
 
A&M took a 5-3 lead in the top half of the sixth inning. Utterback's bat was once again hot as he doubled to left center field to advance Dodson to third. Woods' then singled to right center to plate Dodson. Sophomore Dylan Payne grounded out to the shortstop allowing Utterback to score the Bulldogs final run of the contest.
 
The Bison's, in the bottom of the sixth, scored seven runs then added eight more in the eighth to claim the home win.
 
Junior Ryan Ahrens picked up the loss for the Maroon and White.
 
Woods led the Bulldogs at the plate going three for four with a run and two runs batted in. 
 
A&M will return home this weekend to host their first Southwestern Athletic Conference opponent, Alcorn State, to a three-game series set at Bulldogs Field.  Saturday's doubleheader gets underway at 11 a.m. with the second game scheduled for 2 p.m. The series finale is set for a 1 p.m. first pitch on Sunday, March 2.
