Baseball hosts Alcorn in Conference Opener

Normal- The Maroon & White baseball squad will open 2014 league play this weekend when they host the Braves of Alcorn State in a three-game series at Bulldog Field.

The visitors out of Mississippi currently stand at 0-8 on the season. The Braves have tallied 57 hits and 19 runs in 73 innings of play (one extra inning game). As a team, Alcorn averages .221 at the plate led by Moses Charles.

Charles has collected three runs, nine hits, one RBI and a .474 batting average on 19 at bats. Earl Burl has added three runs, seven hits (two doubles, two homeruns), and five RBI's in 23 at bats

The 3-9 Bulldogs will enter action led by Julio Nunez who tops A&M in multiple categories. Nunez leads his squad in hits (13), runs scored (10), homeruns (2), total bases (22), and stolen bases (6)

Defensively, the Maroon & White is led by Allen Smith's 52 putouts

Last season, A&M went 1-2 versus the Braves on the home diamond. This year they will look to return to their winning ways on the season and sweep the visitors in front of the home crowd

Action will begin with Saturday's doubleheader beginning at 11:00 a.m. on March 1.  First pitch of game three is set for 1:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
