Prairie View gets the best of A&M

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas - Three Bulldogs scored in double figures, led by Ebony Johnson's 18 points as the AAMU women's basketball team fell 98-77 to the Panthers of Prairie View A&M, on Saturday afternoon.

Prairie View Shamiya Brooks led all scorers with 22 points, including 18 in the first half. Michaela Burton added 20 for the Panthers.
 
PV led by nine points in the first half, which ended with the Panthers in front 51-41 at the break. Both teams shot well in the first, with A&M hitting 55.6 percent of their attempts (15-27) compared to PV's 51.4 percent (18-35).
 
The home team's pressure got to the Bulldogs in the second half, forcing 15 AAMU turnovers and limiting them to 31.3 percent (10-32) shooting.
 
The Panthers, meanwhile, remained consistent, hitting 43.4 percent of their shots (14-32) to take control late.
 
The Bulldogs held a 41-37 edge on the boards, which included nine on the offensive end and an even six points on fast break advantages. AAMU also forced 18 turnovers, converting them into 23 points.
 
The Lady Panthers (11-14, 11-4 SWAC) led by as many as 20 points in the second half, only to have A&M storm back to cut the lead on Shabr'an Richardson jumper with 4:21 left. The Panthers reasserted themselves with a 17-6 run to close the contest.
 
AAMU's Brittney Strickland finished the day with 13 points while Jasmine Sanders posted 11 for the Bulldogs. Johnson also led the team in rebounds pulling down nine.
 
Jeanette Jackson added 19 points for PV, while Alexus chipped in 13.
 
Up next, the Bulldogs will take on the Tigers of Texas Southern on Monday night in Houston, Texas.
