Bulldog Baseball claims their fourth SWAC win

NORMAL – Austin Husley and Andrew Utterback led the Alabama A&M Baseball team today versus Alabama State to a 5-4 win over their in-state rivals.

Both players connected on three hits, but it was the heroics of Utterback who hit a single to left field scoring Julio Nunez and Brandyn Crutcher to give A&M their fourth Southwestern Athletic Conference victory of the year.

State opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the third inning.  The Hornets then added another run in the top of the fourth.  The bottom of the inning witnessed Justen Folger produce his first run of the game to decrease the ASU lead 3-1.

The Bulldogs would even things up in the sixth when Folger hit his first homerun of the year.  The Johnny Bench watch list member, Dustin Dhanani, then tied things up with his lone run of the contest, 3-3.

Bulldog winning pitcher, Manny Lora, then entered the game in the eighth and held the six batters he faced to a hit, two fly outs, a pair of ground outs and a strikeout. The win was the senior's first of the season.

The Maroon & White would take the win in the bottom of the eighth inning on Utterbacks heroics giving them, their seventh win of the year and fourth in league play.

As a team AAMU posted 13 hits for the eighth occasion this season with double digit connections.
 
The second game of the doubleheader was all State as the Bulldogs did score a run but gave up eight runs in the fourth eventually falling 11-1 in the nightcap.

The final game in this three-game Eastern Division series will take place on Sunday, March 16, at 1 p.m. at the Bulldog baseball field.
