State gets the best of the Bulldogs

NORMAL - On the final day of a three game Eastern Division Southwestern Athletic Conference series with Alabama State; Alabama A&M baseball fell to the Hornets, on a cloudy Sunday afternoon on "The Hill."
 
The Hornets jumped out to a five nothing lead to open the game.
 
In the bottom half of the first A&M's Ramon Nelson blasted a triple to right center field.  The next batter, Patrick Dobson, grounded out to first that brought in Nelson to score the Bulldogs first run.
 
A&M threated in the bottom half of the second when Brandon Crutcher smacked his second triple of the year to right field and then was brought home by Julio Nunez's single.  Dodson then drove in Nunez for his first of two RBI's on the day, to cut into the Hornets lead 5-3.
 
The bottom of the fourth saw A&M add a run as Nunez singled to center field to score Crutcher.
 
Jordan Friend tripled to lead off the bottom of the sixth inning for the Bulldogs.  Allen Smith then grounded out to second base plating Friend to score the Maroon & White's final run of the game.
 
ASU added four runs in the sixth, three runs in the seventh, and three in the eighth to secure insurance runs and take a 15-5 victory at Bulldog field.
 
Nunez led the Bulldogs with three hits and two RBI's. Nelson and Crutcher each posted two hits with both crossing the plate twice. Smith led the team with seven putouts while catcher Dustin Dhanani totaled six.
 
Normando Valentin led the Hornets earning the win in two innings of work.
 
Alabama A&M will now venture into non-conference play this week as they welcome Morehead State to Bulldog field on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 18-19.  Game times are set for 2 p.m. each day.
