Bulldog Baseball Clinches Series with Jackson State

NORMAL -- Alabama A&M made the most of its Southwestern Athletic Conference baseball series with Jackson State.

A&M improved to 16-20 overall and 8-5 in league play, while Jackson State is now 23-15 and 6-8.

The Bulldogs have won eight of their last 13 conference games and have now grabbed back-to-back series wins. A&M is above .500 in league play for the first time in over five years.

The Maroon & White offensive attack included a four-run seventh inning and a two-run eighth inning.

In the seventh inning, Dustin Dhanani started things of with a two-out single. Brandon Crutcher followed with a single, and then Austin Hulsey followed with an RBI-double to the outfield gap, before a single by Julio Nunez brought a runner home.

In the eighth inning, Jordan Friend flied out to right field, but Jackson State right fielder Fred Hampton drop the ball and an infield error by Jackson State allowed Friend to reach second. Crutcher followed with a one-run single and Nunez added an outfield double for another run. Hulsey had two hits and four RBI's.

In game two, A&M scored first with two runs in the third inning on an run batted in-double by Nunez.

The lead was stretched to 10-4 in the sixth inning on a three-run double by Patrick Dodson.
 
Ryan Ahrens drew the start for A&M but was lifted in the fifth inning with his team ahead 10-4.

JSU strung together a four-run seventh inning, thanks in part to Brandon Taylor who hit a grand slam over left field wall cutting into the Bulldogs lead 13-8.

Manny Lora worked A&M out of a tight spot and dominated in the eighth inning striking out four. Andrew Utterback came in the ninth and got two strikeouts for his second save.

A&M finished with 12 hitson both games, for the 16th & 17th  occasion this season wih double digit hits.
 
Nunez and Ramon Nelson were the lone multiple hitters for the Bulldogs in the second contest.
 
The series finale between the Bulldogs and Tigers is Sunday, April 13, beginning at 1:00 p.m. Sunday's game will be available via live stats.
