Box Score Boxscore

NORMAL – The University of North Alabama scored three runs in the third to take a late 3-0 lead against Alabama A&M, and held on in the ninth for a 5-4 victory over the Bulldogs of Alabama A&M on Tuesday afternoon at Mike Lane Field.

Brandon Crutcher scored the first Bulldog run of the game when he was brought in on an RBI single from Ramon Nelson.

A&M's next batter Austin Hulsey rallied late in the third starting with a base hit. Nelson was erased on a fielder's choice, but Andrew Utterback was able to move Hulsey into scoring position on a single with two outs. Cornelius Woods came through with an RBI double to right field to tie the game at three all.

The Bulldogs took their first lead of the night in the fifth, when an RBI single from Hulsey into the right field corner scored Julio Nunez, making it a 4-3 advantage in favor of the Maroon & White.

After surrendering a run on a single in the third, AAMU's Caleb Bowen managed to keep UNA off the board until the fifth, when an RBI single from Brad Noland saw the Lions regain a 5-4 lead.

Despite issuing no walks, Bowen kept UNA largely off-balance, surrendering just three hits and one earned run. The Bulldogs reliever totaled three strikeouts while facing 18 batters.

Even without scoring over the last four innings, the Bulldogs did their job at the plate, making Lions starter Cade Medley work for every out he registered.

A&M collected 11 hits as a team for the 18th occasion this season with double digit connections.

Woods ended the evening 3 for 5 with a pair of runs batted in. Nunez, Nelson and Utterback all collected two hits each.

A&M will return to the diamond in a three day non-conference weekend series, April 25-27.  They will travel to Ruston, Louisiana for a Friday, Saturday and Sunday series with Louisiana Tech University.
