RUSTON - Alabama A&M late rally wasn't enough as Louisiana Tech scored four runs to complete a three-game series sweep over Alabama A&M with a close 4-3 victory Sunday afternoon at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park.

Louisiana Tech started things off in the fourth Stephen Gandy came through with an RBI single through the left field to score and advance Tech on the board with a 1-0 lead. Later in that inning, the Bulldogs executed a double steal and beat the throw home from the pitcher to put Tech up 2-0 over A&M.

Dustin Dhanani led off the fifth inning with a single up the middle. Ramon Nelson then reached first on a throwing error by La. Tech's pitcher who then allowed both runners to advance bases. Dhanani, then reached third and continued to steal home on the same play by beating the throw at the plate to make it a 2-1 La. Tech lead.

The Blue and White Bulldogs added their third run of the game in the sixth and gave LA Tech a 3-1 advantage.

In the seventh, Austin Hulsey led off with a double. Hulsey, then advanced to third on the ground ball and eventually scored on a ground ball. Allen Smith came around to score the third and final run of the game for AAMU on a double to left field by Jordan Friend to make it 4-3 in favor of LA Tech.

Friend drove in the only earned run of the game for Alabama A&M with a base hit, while Patrick Dodson reached base three times on walks. Ramon Nelson, Brandyn Crutcher, Hulsey, Utterback and Dhanani each recorded a base hit in the loss.

Alabama A&M had six hits on the afternoon.

Devin Smith was charged with the loss after giving up four runs on eight hits over the course of seven innings. Smith struck out five LA Tech batters and walked just one before Derrick Winter came on to start the eighth . Winter gave up two hits and faced five batters in one inning of relief.

A&M will return to the diamond when they welcome Mississippi Valley State University, on Saturday and Sunday, May 3 and 4.
