A&M baseball fights but comes up short versus Troy

TROY -- Things weren't easy for Troy University early on as the Bulldogs jumped out to a 4-0 lead thanks to a three-run first inning.
 
Alabama A&M leadoff batter Julio Nunez opened the game with a home run. Two singles, a walk and a sacrifice fly later, the Bulldogs had built a 3-0 advantage.

In the second inning, AAMU scored another run on an RBI single from Austin Hulsey.

From there the Trojans went on to score a pair of runs in the fourth, one in the fifth and five in the sixth in route to their first win in five tries 9-6.

The Bulldogs (14-20) would pick up a pair of runs on a two-run home run by Hulsey to cap their scoring in the seventh inning.

The Bulldogs collected six hits as a team with Hulsey leading going 3 for 3 with a homerun and three RBI's.

Derrick Winter accounted for three strikeouts while Ryan Ahrens posted two strikeouts in two innings of work.

A&M will return to the diamond when they welcome Jackson State University, on Saturday and Sunday, April 12th and 13th

A doubleheader is set for Saturday at 12 and 3:30 p.m.  The final nine inning contest of the series is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Sunday.
