Four Bulldogs named to the All-SWAC team

Andrew Utterback receives the Southwestern Athletic Conference’s Hitter of the Year Award


NORMAL - The All-SWAC team has been announced and the Alabama A&M baseball team has earned four spots on the postseason list.
 
Andrew Utterback powered AAMU to its first 20-win season. He sits atop the conference with a .406 batting average which ranks 16th in Division I. In addition to his batting average, he leads the SWAC in slugging percentage (.600) and on-base percentage (.517) for third in the nation. With 160 at-bats on the year, he has recorded 12 doubles, two triples, five home runs, 40 RBI's and 27 runs scored.  

Sophomore Austin Husley was named to the first-team for the second year in a row after batting .348 in 47 contests. He posted 63 hits, 29 runs, 37 RBI's, 13 doubles, a triple, five homeruns and four stolen bases.  The Russellville, Alabama product finished the regular season fourth in hits in the league.
 
Juniors Brandon Crutcher and Julio Nunez were selected to the second team.

Nunez, the second baseman. hit .333, drove in 43 runs and led the team with seven home runs. Nunez added 13 stolen bases and scored a team-high 48 runs.
 
Crutcher totaled a .333 batting average in 42 games played.  The Huntsville, Alabama native is seventh in on base percentage and fourth in stolen bases (17) in the conference.
 
"I'm extremely proud of these guys," said head coach Mitch Hill.  "Very happy to have these four guys, they've worked hard this year and they deserve these accolades for their accomplishments."
 
"We have to keep this momentum going into the tournament," Hill stated.
 
The awards, along with first and second-team All-SWAC honors, are voted on by league head coaches and sports information directors.
