A&M Will Meet Prairie View in an Elimination Game

NEW ORLEANS - Alabama A&M fell to Jackson State University 12-3, on the second day of the 2014 Southwestern Athletic Conference baseball tournament at the Wesley Barrow Stadium in New Orleans, La.

First baseman Austin Hulsey went 2-for-3 on the day while Ramon Nelson knocked in his fourteenth RBI of the season. Patrick Dodson drove in the Bulldogs first run of the game with an RBI single in the third inning, scoring Julio Nunez.

After JSU added six runs in the bottom of the fifth to take an 8-1 lead, relief pitcher Jordan Benford came in and struck out one and forced the next two JSU batters to ground out.

The Bulldogs trailed 8-1, but scored again in the top half of the six inning when Nelson singled to score Hulsey. The Bulldogs tacked on another run when Justin Folger scored on an RBI single from Jordan Friend cutting into the Tigers 8-3 lead.

A&M finished the game with nine hits. Nelson was the other multiple hitter for the Bulldogs going 2 for 4 in the contest.

A&M will now meet the third seed from the Western Division Prairie View A&M in an elimination game on Friday, May 16, at 9 a.m.  The two teams met in the opening round in which A&M defeated thePanthers 11-5.
