Baseball falls to Prairie View 9-2 to end tournament run

NEW ORLEANS – The Alabama A&M baseball team fell 9-2 to Prairie View A&M to end their tournament run for the 2014 season on Friday at the Major League Urban Youth Academy at Wesley Barrow Stadium.

In the top of the third inning, AAMU trailed Prairie View, 4-0, before going to the bull pen to bring in Derrick Winters who relieve starter Benjamin Ryder.

In the sixth, the Bulldogs trailed 6-1 before surrendering three runs to fall behind 9-1. AAMU walked in two runs, with one out, with bases loaded for Prairie View.

The Bulldogs plated a run in the top of the sixth when Julio Nunez doubled and came home on a Patrick Dodson's RBI single. In the top of the eighth, the Bulldogs scored their final run of the game when Andrew Utterback batted in Dodson, cutting PVAMU's lead 9-2.

Offensively, the Maroon & White was led by Dodson who posted two hits on the day. Dodson and Utterback both collected a RBI. As a team, the Bulldogs had eight hits and left seven on base.

Ryder earned the loss in the Bulldogs third tournament contest.

AAMU ends the 2014 season with a 21-32 overall record and a 12-9 conference mark with a second place finish in the Eastern Division of the SWAC.
