Bulldogs visit Jackson State for three-game series

JACKSON, Miss. -- The Bulldogs visit Jackson State this weekend with a chance to move up in the SWAC East Division standings.

A&M is 7-11 in the division, in fourth place, 2 games behind the Tigers, who sit at 8-8.

Gametimes are Friday at 6 p.m.; Saturday at 3 p.m.; and Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Bulldogs have won four of their last six SWAC games as they wind down the regular season. They've already clinched a spot in next month's league tournament so now it's just a question where they finish and who they will play from the SWAC's West Division.

A&M boasts the league's No. 1 double play (15th in the nation) and the nation's hardest player to strike out in J.T. O'Reel.

On the mound, three Bulldogs are among the SWAC's top eight strikeout leaders. Josh Burchell is second with 71 strikeouts; Brandon Marsonek is third with 70 and Caleb Roberts is eighth with 57.

And the trio is 3-4-5 in getting batters out looking: Marsonek with 28, Burchell with 24 and Roberts has fanned 22 batters looking. Roberts and Marsonek also have the most appearances in the SWAC with 23 each, while Marsonek leads in games finished with 13.

In the field, Nolan Ramsey is No. 1 with a 1.000 fielding percentage while O'Reel leads in assists with 113.

The double-play combo of O'Reel-Tanner Ivey-Dylan Payne have combined is among the best in the SWAC. O'Reel leads in fielding double plays with 29; Ivey is third with 25 and Payne is fifth with 21.
