MBB Adds Tyler Marsh as Assistant Coach

HUNTSVILLE--- Alabama A&M University head men's basketball coach Donnie Marsh announced Thursday the hiring of Tyler Marsh as assistant coach.

"It is an incredible thrill for me to be able to add a coach and person of the caliber of Tyler Marsh," Donnie Marsh said. "He has been around the game his entire life and has experienced success on the court as a player, and as a coach having been a part of an NBA-Developmental League Championship Team."

The son of Donnie Marsh, Tyler Marsh joins the Bulldogs coaching staff with four years of NBA Development League (now known as the G-League) coaching experience and one year of Prep School experience.

Prior to coming to the Hill, Marsh was an assistant coach for the Fort Wayne Mad Ants, the G-League Affiliate of the Indiana Pacers. In 2015-16, he served as the associate head coach at the Standard of Excellence Academy in Charlotte, N.C. While at the Standard of Excellence Academy, Marsh helped coach several players to Division I, Division II and NAIA scholarships.

In 2014-2015, Marsh was an assistant coach for the Bakersfield Jam, the G-League Affiliate of the Phoenix Suns, and was part of the coaching staff that coached the Western Conference All-Stars in the NBADL All-Star game. In 2013-2014, Marsh was the assistant coach for the Iowa Energy, the G-League Affiliate of Minnesota Timberwolves.

Before his stint with Iowa Energy, Marsh was the player development coach for the G-League Affiliate of the Houston Rockets, Rio Grande Valley Vipers. He had the opportunity of being a part of the coaching staff that helped lead the Vipers to a NBADL championship.

"I'm very excited to enter the next chapter of my coaching career here at Alabama A&M," Tyler Marsh said.  "It's an unbelievable blessing to be able to work every day alongside my father as we share the same vision for bringing the Bulldog Men's Basketball program back to prominence.

"I'm also very grateful to our Director of Athletics Bryan Hicks as well as President Dr. Andrew Hugine jr. for this amazing opportunity."

In 2011-2012, Marsh worked in ticket operations for the University of Miami's Athletic Department.

Collegiately, the Miami, FL native played two seasons for the University of Alabama at Birmingham from 2006-2008. In 2008, Marsh transferred to Birmingham-Southern College and played for two years before graduating in 2011 with a degree in Business Administration.

"Our players will benefit greatly from his knowledge and player development expertise," Donnie Marsh said. "Coach Marsh also brings a commitment to academics as he was named a Conference USA Scholar-Athlete. We have surrounded our players with another positive role model that will help them across the board in their development as students, as people and as players."

The 2017-18 Bulldogs coaching staff will make their AAMU debut Saturday, Nov. 11 at Ohio University. The game can be heard on WJAB FM 90.9/WJAB.org with Michael Burns on the play by play.
