HUNTSVILLE -- Play ball!
The Bulldogs baseball team opens the season Friday with a four-game series at home against Fort Wayne.
And the temperature is predicted to be in the 60s and 70s - unlike the past couple seasons when the Mastodons felt more at home than did the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs will be fielding a young team this year with 23 new faces, including 15 freshmen.
Anchoring the team is a pair of seniors: first team All-Southwestern Athletic Conference pitcher Brandon Marsonek and shortstop JT O'Reel - the toughest batter to strike out in the nation last year - who is among Black College Nines' "Ten HBCU Players to Look Out for in 2017."
And Head Coach Mitch Hill is looking for a good season from a pair of new faces as he enters his fourth season as head coach - freshman pitcher Caleb Gay and junior first baseman Carson McGregory.
Gay, a righthander, was named by Black College Nines as a "HBCU Top Impact Freshman."
McGregory was named to the 2016 Alabama Community College Conference Gold Glove Team.
First pitch is 1 p.m. Friday at Bulldogs Field. There is a doubleheader Saturday starting at 11 a.m. and the series finale is 1 p.m. Sunday.
