Box Score 2 SAN MARCOS, Texas -- Carson McGregory had three hits, including a double, and scored two runs but the Bulldogs dropped a 8-3 decision to Texas State in the first game of a doubleheader Sunday. The Bulldogs were shut out 10-0 in Sunday's second game.
Game one was a makeup of Saturday's scheduled contest which was postponed due to rain.
This was the first three-hit game as a Bulldog for McGregory.
The Bulldogs, trailing 2-0 after one inning, got on the board in the second after McGregory's leadoff double. He moved to third on a passed ball and scored when Betancourt grounded out to second.
The Bobcats added a run in the fifth for a 3-1 lead and exploded for five runs in the seventh to take command at 8-1.
In the Bulldogs' ninth, Zeth Malcom laced a one-out single up the middle. McGregory singled through the right side and Brandon Whitaker, running for Malcom, advanced to second.
Betancourt followed up with a double down the rightfield line to score Whitaker and move McGregory to third.
Pierre Brewton then reached first on a throwing error by the Texas State third baseman, allowing McGregory to score. However, Brewton and Betancourt were left stranded on the bases as the inning ended.
Blaine Milam fell to 2-2 as he went six innings, giving up seven hits and five earned runs.
Texas State 10, Bulldogs 0, Game 2
Starting pitcher Fernando Diaz Jr. and TSU's Nicholas Fraze were engaged in a hitless, scoreless duel through four innings.
A&M's Cornelious Woods singled in the fifth to break up Fraze's no-hitter but the Bobcats scored six runs in the bottom of the inning en route to the win.
The Bulldogs are back on the road this week with games Tuesday and Wednesday at Eastern Kentucky.
They return home to face Mississippi Valley State in a three-game Southwestern Athletic Conference series Friday through Sunday.
