BIRMINGHAM -- When the Bulldogs take on Alabama State on Friday at Regions Field, it will be a Classic game.
Literally.
The two intrastate and SWAC Eastern Division rivals will meet in the third annual Magic City Diamond Classic.
A&M and ASU met earlier this season in Montgomery and the Bulldogs took one of the three games.
They will continue the series Saturday and Sunday at Bulldogs Field. First pitch Saturday is 3 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.
Carson McGregory has been helping provide the Bulldogs with offense and defense this year. In fact, he's among the SWAC leaders in several offensive and defensive categories.
The junior first baseman leads the league in chances with 272 and putouts with 253. At the plate, McGregory is fourth with 38 hits, third in at-bats with 122, tied for fifth with 10 doubles and in plate appearances at 135.
On the mound, Brandon Marsonek continues to dominate opposing batters - they are batting a paltry .228 against him - and the pitching stats.
He has the most mound appearances (23) and innings pitched (58.1) in the country and is fourth with 70 strikeouts. Meanwhile, he also leads the SWAC in strikeouts looking (32), saves (4), games finished (18) and games in relief (20).
