GAMEDAY: Lady Bulldogs at Alabama State

MONTGOMERY, AL--- Alabama A&M women's basketball team (7-8, 2-2) travels to Montgomery, AL to face in-state rival Alabama State on Saturday at 3 p.m. The game can be watched live on the Hornets Sports Network. As a reminder to all fans, the Clear Bag Policy will be in effect at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Bulldogs look to make it three straight Southwestern Athletic Conference wins after defeating the Mississippi Valley Delta Devilettes, 65-48, Monday night in Elmore Gym.

In the Lady Bulldogs' win over MVSU, three players scored in double figures hitting 11 points each ( Nigeria Jones, Jameica Cobb and Lauren McKee). Cobb had her first double-double of the season as she added 12 rebounds and three assists. Kanisha Tharpe recorded a game-high 13 rebounds while adding six points, two assists and two blocks.

On the season, Alabama A&M is shooting 35 percent (328-930) from the field. Four times this season, the Lady Bulldogs have shot above 40 percent - .475 vs Evansville, .500 vs Tennessee State, .476 vs Southeastern LA and .426 vs Mississippi Valley. The team is shooting 22 percent from the behind the arc and 58 percent from the free throw line.

Alabama A&M has four players that rank in the top eight in the SWAC. Tharpe is ranked sixth in rebounding with an average of 6.4 rebounds per game. Dotson is ranked fourth with a .460 field goal percentage, while McKee is fifth with 3.3 assists per game. Natalie Collins is seventh with a .294 three-point field goal percentage.

Jones is leading the team in scoring with 8.5 points per game followed by Ashlyn Dotson who contributes seven points per game. Tharpe leads the team with 6.5 rebounds per game.

ABOUT THE LADY HORNETS
Alabama State (4-11, 2-2 SWAC) enters Saturday's match after defeating UAPB 63-54 in their last contest on Monday night. Amber Hunt and Keimeisha Walker lead the team in scoring with 13 points each.

Walker leads the Lady Hornets in scoring this season, averaging 9.4 points and 2.1 rebounds per game. Tatyana Calhoun is averaging 7.1 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. Kayla Stephens averages 6.2 points per game and 4.4 rebounds, and she ranks eighth in the conference at the free line shooting 71.4 (35-49) percent.

Walker leads the Lady Hornets in scoring this season, averaging 9.4 points and 2.1 rebounds per game. Calhoun is averaging 7.1 points and 6.5 rebounds per game, and has scored in double figures four times this season. She has three double-doubles this season and seven for her career, including a 17-point, 17-rebound performance against MVSU one week ago.
 
Kayla Stephens averages 6.2 points per game and 4.4 rebounds, and she ranks eighth in the conference at the free throw line shooting 71.4 (35-of-49) percent.

Alabama State swept the season series last season, and holds a 31-21 lead in the series. The Lady Hornets claimed a 52-37 victory at Alabama A&M (1/14/17), and then claimed a 62-35 contest (2/11/17).
