Baseball Hosts Fort Wayne in Season-Opening Series

HUNTSVILLE—The Alabama A&M University baseball team opens up the 2018 campaign on Friday at Bulldog Field, as they host Fort Wayne in the season-opening series. A possible chance of rain on the opening weekend of action has bumped the start of the series up, as the Bulldogs will take on the Mastodons starting Friday afternoon for a doubleheader at 11 a.m.

Scouting the Bulldogs (2017:12-45, 9-15 SWAC)
The Bulldogs are entering the 2018 season coming off a 12-45 record overall, which saw them finishing third in the Southwestern Athletic Conference east division. The team welcomes 11 freshman as Coach Hill and the Bulldogs continue to build off of last season.

Offensively, Carson McGregory returns for the Bulldogs after averaging .351 base percentage and leading the team with 58 hits, 29 runs scores, 23 RBIs, 13 doubles and 74 total bases. He also ended the year with a .280 batting average. Other key returners for the 2018 squad include: Carlton Peppers, Dalton Mitchell, Blaine Milam and JT O'Reel.

Scouting the Mastodons (2017: 9-43, 4-26 Summit)
Fort Wayne returns last season's leading hitter Dylan Wilbert (.339) as well as last year's leader in home runs, Brock Logan (6). Head coach Bobby Pierce enters his 10th season with the Mastodons. The Fort Wayne roster features seven seniors, two juniors, nine sophomores and 11 freshmen.

All-Time Series: Fort Wayne leads the all-time series against the Bulldogs, 12-9. This is the seventh season Fort Wayne has traveled to Huntsville to open the season. Last year, the Mastodons dropped the first two games before winning the final two in the series.
