HUNTSVILLE, Ala. __ The Alabama A&M University Men and Women Cross Country and Track and Field teams continued their tradition in serving the community for the 18th Annual Successful Aging Initiative presented by Alabama Cooperative Extension System Urban and New Nontraditional Programs Unit.

The event was held on at Union Chapel Missionary Baptist Church and it was the third year that the team has participated. The guest Speaker was Dr. Tonea Stewart, an American actress and University professor who currently serves as the Dean of College of Visual and Performing Arts at Alabama State University in Montgomery, Alabama.

Junior Donald Weakley has participated in the service project for the third consecutive year and has enjoyed it on each occasion.

"It has been a great experience helping the senior citizens for three years now," Weakley stated. "Seeing them smile from just the smallest things brightens my day every year.  You can always find yourself being happy by helping out others in need or helping them find their happiness."

The Track and Field teams are both currently preparing for their upcoming seasons, and have high expectations coming in. On the women's side, the team is looking to carry the momentum from this season's Cross Country success into the new year, while the men's side is looking to show and prove their hard work over the offseason.
