BIRMINGHAM — The Alabama A&M women's indoor track and field team completed the 2019 Southwestern Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Birmingham Crossplex this past weekend.

Leading the Lady Bulldogs, sophomore Danice Loney finished in second place, passing her record last year with a vault of 3.41m (11-2.25) giving the lady bulldogs eight points while winning a silver medal.

"It's been a great 2019 indoor season," Loney said. "Last year I finished in the third position, so that just shows my progression this year.  I cannot wait to see what the outdoor season holds.

"I walked into this meet ready to do what I had to do to take my position on the podium. I love the energy given from my coaching staff, as well as my teammates and family. I am truly blessed and thankful for God keeping me healthy and carrying me through the season. Now it is time to Grind even more for the outdoor season."

Several other Lady Bulldogs put up points to contribute to the team standing.

Terion Davis finished in the eighth position in the 400-meter dash with a season-best time of 57.60.

Sabria Wooten also finished in the eighth position in the mile run with a time of 5:41.19.

Sophia Madison finished in the seventh position in the women's high jump with a jump of 1.59m (5'2.5).

Rounding off the meet, the women's 4x400 meter relay consisting of Terion Davis, Diamond Griffin, Maya Davis and Autumn Locklin finished in the fourth position, slightly out of the third position with a time of 3:48.96.

"I am extremely proud of the ladies who fought hard to obtain what we could for this championship," Alabama A&M track and field coach LaShaunda Jones said. "Many people do not know or realize all the trials and tribulations that this team had to face from the first semester up until the championship.

"To overcome everything and come out with a seventh-place team finish may not seem like a lot to some, but it was everything to us at this time. I charged the team prior to Championship to go in and get all that we can and fight hard until the end of the championship. They did just that and the time that the 4x400 meter relay women ran showed them that they can reach even higher for the outdoor season. I appreciate everyone from the administrators, family, friends and alumni who have supported us through these trials and that are continuing to support us. We truly love you all for all that you do."
