AAMU track & field opens Pepsi Florida Relays with strong start

GAINSEVILLE, Fla. — The Alabama A&M women's track and field team got off to a strong start on Thursday at the Pepsi Florida Relays, which are being held at the University of Florida.

Akia Slaughter opened the meet strong, posting a 24.57 in the 200-meter dash, while Precious Haynes ran a 25.68.

The Lady Bulldogs continued the meet strong with the duo of Davis and Davis finishing directly behind each other in the Women's Open 400 meter dash.
 
Terion Davis led the duo with a 28th finish and a time of 56.24. Maya Davis followed behind closely and ran a personal best in the event fishing with a time of 56.28.

"My thoughts during the race was to execute every part and to not be afraid of pain," Maya Davis said. "I shocked myself and surpassed my goal for the season. I am so grateful for that. If I continue to work hard in practice, I believe I will continue to shock myself."

The Lady Bulldogs finished Day 1 with Arryanna Dean competing in the Women's open 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:03.11, which gave her a 14th place finish overall in the event.

The only event for the Alabama A&M men's team saw sophomore Donald Weakley in action in the Men's 200-meter dash with a time of 22.21 and Jordan Minnis with a time of 22.45.
