Lady Bulldogs fall in extras, still win weekend series

Box Score HUNTSVILLE __ The Lady Bulldogs split their doubleheader of conference foe Jackson State on Saturday but win the series to improve to (16-14) overall, (5-4) in SWAC.
 
After a tight contest on Friday afternoon, the Lady Bulldogs brought their bats early in game one of Saturday's doubleheader. Alabama A&M broke the game open in the bottom of the third by scoring four runs to get a 6-3 lead and finished the game off 9-3.
 
Danielle Hansell (3-4), Dorian Edwards (2-4, 2 runs) and Madison Pozzi (3-4, 1 run) all had multiple hits for the Bulldogs, while Ariel McAtee added two runs as well. 
 
Alyssa Lopez (1-0) got the win for Alabama A&M in the opening game, only giving up four hits in her five innings pitched. McHaliee Danner came in relief to pick up the save for the Lady Bulldogs. 
 
Leah Hopson (0-2) picked up the loss for Jackson State.
 
In game 2, the Lady Bulldogs struck first scoring two runs in the bottom of the first after a two-run homer by Ariel McAtee. The Lady Tigers responded to tie the game at three with two in the fourth and another in the top of the fifth inning.
 
After a squeeze play by the Tigers to take a 4-3 lead in the top of the seventh, Tamia Lee-Barbadillo started off the bottom of the inning for Alabama A&M with a double to start off the late comeback. After a sacrifice bunt to move the runner to third, Lee-Barbadillo scored on a passed ball to tie the game at four each.
 
In extras, errors helped the Lady Tigers score five in the eighth to put the game at 9-4, a lead that proved to be too much for the Lady Bulldogs to overcome.
 
McHailee Danner (1-2) picked up the loss for the Bulldogs, while Kayla Owens (6-10) picked up the win for Jackson State. 
 
Alabama A&M Softball will be in action at home again on Tuesday, April 9thas they host the University of North Alabama for a non-conference doubleheader starting at noon central time.
