STARKVILLE, Miss. ^__ The Alabama A&M women's soccer team begins their 2019 season today as they head on the road to face SEC opponent Mississippi State at MSU Soccer Field at 6 p.m. The opening game marks the beginning of year three for head coach Emanuel Stephens.

The Lady Bulldogs look to improve upon last year's sixth place finish in the Southwestern Athletic Conference, by returning 16 letter winners, including seven starters. The leading scorer in 2018, Ayanna Gooden, returns for her junior year and was named to the All-SWAC Second Team. Other key contributors returning include Valery Mastache-Gomez, tied for second on the team in goals with three, and Camille Nurse a defender who also added two goals during the 2018 season.

Alabama A&M will hit the road for the next two matches to face off against Georgia State (Aug. 31) scheduled for 6 p.m. and Kennesaw State (Sept. 2) at 2 p.m. The soccer home opener will be on Sunday, September 8 against the University of North Alabama at Bulldog Field.
