BIRMINGHAM, Ala. __ For the first time in history the Southwestern Athletic Conference hosted the Cricket Wireless SWAC Women's Basketball Media Days virtually via the SWAC Digital Network (SDN) on YouTube.
The virtual broadcast featured one-on-one interviews with SDN analyst James Verrett along with each head coach and one student-athlete from each member institution. Verrett discussed the upcoming Bulldog season with third year head coach Dylan Howard and sophomore guard Garrett Hicks.
Aside from interviews, the conference also announced the Men's Basketball Preseason Poll for the 2020-21 season. Alabama A&M received 50 total votes, selected to finish eighth in the SWAC. Texas Southern and Southern were tabbed to finish as the top two teams, followed by Prairie View A&M, Jackson State, and Alcorn State to round out the top five. Grambling State and Alabama State were picked sixth and seventh, followed by the Bulldogs, while Mississippi Valley State and Arkansas-Pine Bluff round out the final two spots. The preseason poll and teams were voted upon by league head coaches and sports information directors.
The league is slated to announce 2020-21 SWAC Preseason Honors and Teams tomorrow (Nov. 3) at 10:30 am CST.
