Versatility and Athleticism Highlight 2020-21 Alabama A&M Women's Basketball Early Signing Class

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Coming off of a year that saw them tie for the most wins in a season since moving to NCAA Division I in 1999-2000, as well as the most over the past 23 campaigns, Alabama A&M women's basketball has reloaded with an early signing class that features five players that bring excitement, versatility and athleticism to the Bulldogs for years to come.

Fr., 5-9, G, Ja'Niah Alexander (Atlanta, Ga./McDonough HS/Henry County HS)
One of the top players in the State of Georgia, Alexander will come to The Hill following a stellar career with both Henry County High School and the newly formed McDonough High School. Over the course of her career she has helped lead HCHS to 2019 4A County and Region Championships while being named Second-Team All-State and All-Region.

She is ranked as the No. 10 point guard in the state by Sandy Spiel and delivered averages of 12.6 points, 4.2 assists, 4.9 rebounds and 3.2 steals per game. Alexander is also the first Division I signee out of MHS.

Head Coach Margaret Richards on Alexander
"Ja'Niah is long and athletic and can play multiple guard spots. She has a lot of experience in the transition break and is adept at playing the point and scoring. That versatility is going to be important."

Fr., 5-8, G, Hanna Hill (Pulaski, Tenn./Giles County HS)
Hill joins the Bulldogs from just across the border in neighboring Pulaski, Tennessee and is expected to add to the program's wealth of guards. A three-time All-District selection with GCHS, she has also been named to the District Tournament Team in each of the past two seasons, last year following averages of 15.6 points, 4.5 assists and 4.8 rebounds.

Head Coach Margaret Richards on Hill
"Hanna is a hardnosed lefty point guard with good basketball IQ. She brings a pull up jump shot, mid-range game and can stretch the floor."

Fr., 5-7, G, Quantaijah Huffman (Dayton, Ohio/Trotwood-Madison HS)
A northern import, Huffman will bring an impressive resume to the Bulldogs following her time at Trotwood-Madison High School. A deep threat, she is the program's single season three-point record holder with 50 and posted averages of 18.7 points, 6.2 rebounds, 3.3 steals and 2.2 assists.

It is numbers like those that have earned her First-Team honors for the Greater Western Ohio Conference (GWOC), All-Southwest Ohio, All-Underclassmen District 15, the Dabbelt Report and Third-Team All-State – all last season. Entering this year she was also named Division 2 Dayton Preseason Player of the Year and to the Dayton Top 125 and Miami Valley Super 60 by Dabbelt.

Head Coach Margaret Richards on Huffman
"Q is someone we are very excited about. She is a scoring guard that can take it to the basket, pull up for the mid-range and knock down the three. We think she'll fit nicely in our guard-oriented offense where we want the ball in their hands."

Fr., 6-5, C, LaCambria Shakespeare (Atlanta, Ga./Collins Hill HS)
Everyone knows the name Shakespeare but knowledgeable Bulldog fans will recognize it for another reason as this 6-5 post player comes to The Hill. A legacy, LaCambria is the daughter of Jermaine Shakespeare who was a member of A&M's only NCAA Division I Tournament team in 2004-05.

While she carries on the family name with Alabama A&M, Shakespeare is an impressive player in her own right. Per Sandy Spiel, she is the No. 30 ranked senior in the State of Georgia and was a member of the 2019-20 Collins Hill program that was the Georgia 7A State Runner-Up and Region 6 Champion.

Head Coach Margaret Richards on Shakespeare
"LaCambria has so much potential to be an All-League player. She is athletic, physical and aggressive and suited to what we teach in our system. She can help stretch the floor and she able to alter shots at the defensive end. We are very excited to get her."

Fr., 5-10, F, Zhordan Shannon (Smyrna, Tenn./Stewarts Creek HS)
Another versatile player, Shannon comes to Alabama A&M from the neighboring State of Tennessee. Over the course of her career with Stewarts Creek High School she has been named to the All-District Team in both 2018-19 and 2019-20. This past season saw her average 12.6 points, 6.4 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.0 steals.

Head Coach Margaret Richards on Shannon
"We have a variety of guards that can do some different things. Zhordan is a long, athletic defender that can rebound. She can do a lot in that position and she'll play a major role with us."

Head Coach Margaret Richards on the 2020-21 Early Signing Class
"This class is going to add a lot of excitement to our program. It adds depth to different positions and provides competition, athleticism, scoring, defense and rebounding. It makes us bigger, longer and able to do different things."
